The next AFSME Retirees Subchapter 161 Membership Meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 15 at Sweet Basil Cafe, 5203 Old Orchard Road, Skokie, IL 60077. The meeting will begin at noon. Attendees may arrive as early as 11:30 and should order food before the meeting begins (click here to view Sweet Basil Cafe menu). Our guest speaker will be Toni Gilpin. Dr. Gilpin is a labor historian and activist. She is the author of the book The Long Deep Grudge: A Story of Big Capital, Radical Labor, and Class War in the American Heartland. This book details the long conflict between International Harvester and Farm Equipment Workers union, one of the unions deemed Communist by the CIO, and expelled in 1949.
