The next AFSCME Retirees Subchapter 161 Members Meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. The meeting will occur at Sweet Basil Cafe, 5203 Old Orchard Road, Skokie, IL 60077. The meeting will begin at noon. Attendees may arrive as early as 11:30 and should order food before the meeting begins (click here to view Sweet Basil Cafe menu). All attendees will be eligible to be selected by lot for a complementary meal. Our guest for the meeting will be Maria Britton-Sipe, AFSCME Council 31 Retiree Coordinator.

In accordance with our constitution, the election of Subchapter officers is scheduled for the Members Meeting in April, this year on April 17. Offices to be filled for two year terms include President, Vice-President, Secretary-Treasurer, Recording Secretary, and three members of the Executive Board. In addition, one Trustee position for three years will be filled. An election slate will be prepared by the Election Chairman, Karl-Heinz Gabbey, and announced at the meeting. Other nominations for positions may be made by email to afscmeretirees161@gmail.com, by leaving a phone message on our Voice Mail (224-366-7339), or at the meeting. Clyde Wilson, President of AFSCME Retiree Subchapter 163, will speak about his experiences in the union and in the Civil Rights movement in Mississippi. The meeting will include a discussion of the Campaign for Prescription Drug Affordability Act and the Humanize Long Term Care Campaign.
